Hello everybody! This week, I answered several e-commerce questions on my YouTube Channel. So here’s 6 questions and answers from this week!

Click on the question to view the video on Youtube!

How to chose a theme for your Shopify site?

Whether you should go with the Shopify themes on the Shopify website or a Themeforest theme.Actually I have to say that design is pretty secondary for your e-commerce strategy. You should definitely go with some theme that is offered directly on Shopify website so that they’re easy to use, they’re all multi-languages, they’re all bug free, they’re all supported. If you go with another theme it’s going to bring you bugs or other things that you don’t want and the theme that are actually under Shopify theme page so its theme.shopify.com, they’re all working and they have good conversion rates also.

How to identify which plateform your client convert from?

Go on google, search for UTM campaign generator or click here. Then generate a unique link for that person, that Instagram influencer, and then give the influencer the link. Whenever someone comes from this influencer and make a purchase on your website, you will be able to see that purchase and the client in your conversion section of your google analytics or anywhere where you can filter from acquisition sources or eCommerce or conversion. everything is aggregated and it’s possible for you to filter and check the behavior of the clients on your website also.

How to refined your eCommerce website search?

So what you can do easily is you go on google and type exactly what I’m saying : “site:myshopify.com” + “space”, so you put you put the space there and then you type in and the niche you’re looking for. Like for example, I don’t know, gardening pots. So then, you will be able to find all the e-commerce websites hosted on Shopify, and they will be successful because they’re crawled by Google and indexed in the first place in this specific niche. It’s a good way to find these websites.

Is 30$ income for a 250$ spent in ad normal?

Don’t give up, if you had revenue for your ad spend it means that there’s a need. Have you tried to pick up the email addresses of the people that click your ad? I mean with the pop-up or something and have you try to make a video with your product? So the video is an ad of the product used in your everyday life? You should try that!

Which name should I use for my new website?

I am answering Max question about the name for his new jewelry and woman accessories website. Max I would say definitely, launch as soon as you can don’t try to find a good name. Take the first line that you have in mind, something related to women, not accessories, because if you limit yourself right now, you’re going to limit the sales you’re doing later if you want to sell more things. So definitely, the best time to plant a tree was 25 years ago. The next best time to plant a tree is now. So launch your website today, don’t hesitate with a name go and sell!

How to produce great content for social media plateforms?

How much does it cost if you hire a professional firm? It can cost you something like 800 to 4000 dollars for a short video. However what i suggest you to do is to take your iphone, now the iphone cameras are better than any camera that was launched three or four years ago so you take your iphone as i’m doing right now you film yourself using your product and you put that video online you put that as an Ad on facebook and you also put down on your website definitely you are going to sell as you do that and it’s going to cost you how much? zero dollars!

Thank you for reading! It was David Greg from Misterecommerce.com.

Hi everyone, it’s David Grégoire for Mr.Ecommerce.com. I wanted to react to a news that my friend Stéphane Ricoul of eCom Montreal, and now eCom Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, Rimouski … has published about a new Google Tax. Click here to view the article.

I will focus on the eCommerce part of this tax, because I find it does not make sense, despite what Peter Simons said last year at the Hop! salon of the CQCD.

First, you have to know about this statistic:

3 out of 4 dollars spent on the Internet by Quebecers is spent outside Quebec. It’s like this for two reasons:

The first reason: There’s no offer.

Try to get a spare part for your washer-dryer on the internet from a Quebec dealer, a replacement remote control for your television. Currently in Quebec and even in Canada, there are not enough traders who sell on the Internet. This is the first reason why we are forced to buy outside Québec on the Internet.

Second reason: It’s too expensive!

That’s what I’m going to focus on. Why is it too expensive? 2 reasons: GST-QST, you must pay 15% more than if you buy on an American site in addition of the shipping. As for the shipping, it costs 3-4 times more to ship a small parcel from Montreal to Quebec City than it is from Champlain, New York just across the border to Quebec City. Then, necessarily the Quebecers pays more if they buy local.

If there are more taxes that are charged to Amazon, one of the two following things will happen:

  1. Amazon will continue to sell to Quebecers and Quebec consumers will pay more. If that’s what it is, what’s going to happen? Quebec retailers will continue to close because people are buying more and more on the Internet.
  2. Amazon will not want to pay this tax and will prefer to withdraw from Canada. What’s going to happen? Quebec consumers will no longer have an offer because everything that isn’t offered on the on a Quebec website, the Quebec consumer will not be able to buy it overnight, of course . Will they actually go back to the traditional shops? I doubt it!

It’s fair to say, I think, it’s going to make the situation worse in Quebec.

An audacious proposal?

If, on the contrary, the taxes were removed on all Internet transactions in Quebec. This means that Peter Simons, who sells a dress to a Quebecer on the Internet, would no longer be charge GST / QST taxes. In his store, he continues to charge them, but on the internet no. What will it do?

First, there are more and more Quebec retailers that will sell on the internet because clearly, they will be more competitive level price. So they’re going to sell on the internet, necessarily.

And there are more Quebecers who will buy in local on the Internet!

There will be more offer, they will pay less or equal price with American sites so they will buy more on the local website.

Basically, at the same price, why buy on an American site when you can buy it here?

It’s just that right now, it’s impossible to do.

And then you will see my comparison:
I compare this to the Anti-Spam C28 Act that came out 3 years ago. That is completely ridiculous. The government is strictly looking at their treasury. The Anti-Spam Act currently prevents Quebec and Canadian merchants from using email marketing.

On the other hand, the foreign companies (yes there are partnerships with some countries) benefit from it. I receive daily SPAM from companies in India, China, Russia and elsewhere in the world. Currently, this legislation has placed our Quebec companies at a disadvantage.

The result: if there’s a Google Tax, I am convinced that it will disadvantage Quebec companies.

If there’s a Google Tax, it’s going to inflate the government’s short-term revenues because they’re going to get more revenue. But it will melt the sales of Quebec stores that provide employment.
So in the end, are we really going to earn money?
I don’t think so.

And will companies here benefit from that? I am convinced otherwise.

Do you seriously think that Amazon will want to pay a tax on their income?

The article says the government would rely on credit card transactions.
The reality is that if we spend $ 100 on Amazon, Amazon only keeps 10% and gives $ 90 to the merchant who is behind, who sold it via their platform.

Do you really trust Revenu Québec to be able to come into this process of convincing big American companies to pay more taxes here in Quebec?

What is your opinion? Leave it in the comments!

Today I’ll tell you about an imaginary problem that stores who would like to sell online encounter. This is an obsession (and possibly an excuse for merchants who have a store and are thinking about selling online): how to ensure to withdraw products in time from the website in order not to risk selling online a product that ” We do not have anymore in stock”. I’ll answer that question and find solutions!

Seriously, I would say that in the last year one in two customers who called me asked this question. How do I ensure that I do not sell products that I do not have in stock?
In store, it’s easy! When a product is no longer on my shelf, then I do not risk selling it!
But online, it’s a lot of management!

I’ll start by telling an anecdote of an online purchase I did a few years ago. I was looking for a juice extractor. The one I found no longer seemed to be available anywhere.

Lucky, I found it on eBay and I bought it. A few days later the salesman contacted me and told me that he had displayed it by mistake and that he no longer had the product. So I bought it on Amazon. Again, 2 days later my order was canceled.

What I do not understand is that these two merchants had before them a customer with his credit card that was actively looking to buy a juicer. Why didn’t they take the opportunity to sell me another? They could have showed me a similar product but they did not and lost the sale.
Do not make this mistake!

If you have trouble managing your inventory on your website, that does not matter. At least take advantage to contact customers and sell them another similar product!

If, by chance, it is still possible for you to order these products again, do not remove them from your ecommerce site! Take advantage of this opportunity to have a wider range of products available and tell the customer that the product might take longer to ship.
You could also take advantage of the opportunity to negotiate with some suppliers for drop-shipping. Meaning that they would ship the products you sell directly to your customers!

Synchronized cash management software

The easiest method on the long term is to have a cash register software connected to your transactional site.
But this method has several restraints.

First, if you do not currently have a cash register software that allows this, you will need to migrate to a new cash register software. Migration means time, money, training and short-term risks.

Then you are somehow obliged to use the same company for your cash register software as for your e-commerce platform. The two giants in this area are Lightspeed and Shopify.

lightspeed-logo

It’s a great checkout software made in Canada and they released their e-commerce solution last year. So it’s a good alternative if you have a store and you are thinking about selling on the internet. Their features are really focused towards traditional stores.

On the other hand, Lightspeed got a lot of funding and I know they are working very hard to improve their eCommerce software to compete with Shopify and the competition.

Shopify

Shopify is clearly the leader in e-commerce platform. Easy and affordable, it is also a Canadian company that is now on the stock market and has a very large community of developers who make applications.

They launched a few years ago the Shopify POS platform, the cash register software that synchronizes with the e-commerce platform.

As Shopify is primarily an e-commerce platform, everything is oriented towards e-commerce. It’s a good option, if you first started selling online and then decided to open a point of sale with street gates, or if you sell at fairs.

Inventory Synchronization

If you have inventory management software, or other cash register software, or any inventory management software at all, or an inventory management on Excel or paper; You still have a solution.

I always recommend to merchants who ask me which application allows easy and direct management of the inventory.
As everyone has at least a basic knowledge of Excel, it is only natural to use this format. Do you know Google Spreadsheet? This is a kind of Excel, made by Google and it’s free.

First, try to find an application or a plugin that allows you to link a Spreadsheet file to your e-commerce platform. For Shopify, for example, there is StockSync.

How does it works ? It is ultra simple. You install the app that will feed the Google Spreadsheet sheet allinventaire-tournant your products with the SKU, price and inventory. The changes you make on the sheet will be synchronized to your online trading platform in real time, or almost.

At the end of each day, or every Friday, for example, you will only have to report your sales and adjust the inventory on the sheet. You could even make automated Excel formulas!

See ? It’s not so difficult to manage inventory online. Good sales !

Recently I had a discussion with a potential client and I felt that my discussion might help you, because many e-marketers tend to make mistakes when they start in online sales. These errors are expensive! How to avoid them and save on your product photography?

The potential client just started an e-commerce site. Besides, her project is really cool!

The concept: a site where you can buy really unusual camping products.

I thought it was really a good idea!

The first trouble

She said to herself, “Well, it’s going to cost me a lot, I have to take pictures and write descriptions, all that while trying to minimize costs. ”

I gave her some tricks to minimize the costs at first and to try to sell faster too. … Basically, her starting point was to find her pictures on the internet, she started by searching on her supplier’s website to find the pictures. She looked on sites like Alibaba and others, and the pictures were not in a very good resolution. She did not realize it right away. In the end, it took her nearly 6 hours to get her pictures.

And then, the result wasn’t ideal … So she asked if we could photoshop them … However, Photoshopping low resolution pictures is not ideal.

I offered her our services of course, but she could also do business with any photographer.

The common error?

Following my offer, she told me: “For each product, I would like to take a picture of the product packed in its box and the product unpacked. Then I would like to take the front, side, top and back of the product. After, I would like to open the product and say that I have my product in different formats, I would like to take pictures of my products in each size and in each color available, I would like to have a picture for each color. ”

And then I told him, I think you’re going way too far to begin …

How to save on your product photography?

Honestly, what I suggest, if you want to sell on the internet, check out the websites of your competitors, check out Amazon for similar products, what kind of pictures are they taking? You do not need many pictures per product, otherwise it’s going to cost you a lot of money and if you do it yourself, it’s going to take a lot of time. You will see, it is very long to take pictures of products.

There are many situations where only one view per product is sufficient. Even for clothes, when do we need to see the back of the T-shirt? The bottom of the cup? Unless there is something special, but when is it absolutely necessary to have that view? Rarely!

Honestly, what you should do is minimize the number of views per product, it is much longer and much more expensive to take multiple shot …

Usually, the goal is to sell on the internet as fast as possible, at the cheapest price. If you take several pictures, it will take you either time or it will be expensive. Take a picture, maximum two pictures per product and go sell your product on the internet right away!

If you sell millions of copies, it will be worth investing, it will be worth making more photos. But, you do not know if you’re going to sell it, so why invest the maximum amount of money now, perhaps to waste that investment? It is not worth it!

Go step by step!

Start with short descriptions, I think it may not even be worthwhile to translate Shopify e-mails into French, if you take Shopify or whatever platform you are taking.

Once the site is launched

The reality is that if you are not very much good in digital marketing, well you are going to launch your ecommerce site and there will possibly be no visitor. And that’s really sad … Fortunately a few articles in our blog can help you generate traffic on your e-commerce!

On the other hand, if you want to test your product properly, test the pricing, what I suggest you do is go to Ebay or Amazon. It’s still easy to sell on these two platforms.

Put the products you know or you think there is a demand, test them. Test to see if you have the right price, you will immediately sell if it works and you will know that it is worth investing.

When you are going to ship the product to customers, do not forget to put a business card with possibly a discount so that people buy on your website the next time.

In summary

What you want is to sell online as fast as possible and for the cheapest. I suggest you take one or two views per product, maximum.

Start with a shot if you are able, if you absolutely need a second one, then you use it. The fewest pictures and the least text possible and let’s go, you’re selling! When it starts to create trafic, you put more products.

I hope this article will help you save you on your product photography!

Today, I wanted to show you one of the big differences between a traditional product photographer and a photographer specialized in e-commerce products such as Mister eCommerce. It’s a very simple detail that can make a big difference at the end for your online business.

A traditional photographer

Look at those pictures, they are numbered by chronological order.

These are the kind of document you’re going to receive by doing business with a traditional photographer.

Roughly, they will take pictures of your 500 products at home, 3 photos per product and they’ll deliver 1500 photos to a usb key or a small external hard drive with numbers like that.

At first glance, it sounds good, however, when the time comes and you have to go on your ecommerce to :

1.Create a new product
2.Put a title on your photo
3.Write a description
4.Associate the photos with your product.

At this point, there is nothing that looks more like a photo than another photo with a different number.

It’s not so practical! Seriously, this is really not ideal.
Think about it: if you have products that look alike, t-shirts that are very similar, or black shoes and you have 10 consecutive pairs of black shoes … it can easily become a big problem!

The difference between a traditional photographer and Mr. eCommerce?

At MisterEcommerce.com, we have invented a way that allows us to deliver renamed photos according to your needs!

For example, this customer asked us to rename the images according to their internal SKU.
So when they need to find a product, it’s very easy!

It’s really interesting …
There are also other examples: you can ask us to rename your photos according to a barcode or a UPC, (barcode_the number of the view front.jpg, back.jpg Example: 01239854823_front.jpg

You can ask us to use the product name to make it SEO-friendly.
You can ask us to put the code of the product with the color …

The possibilities are truly endless.

Here are some examples:

The advantage?

There are several, but it’s mainly for the SEO factor, it will really help.

The second advantage is that it makes it easier for you to find your pictures.

The third advantage, when it comes to adding products one by one, it makes it much easier for you to distinguish which product is connected to which photo.

At MistereCommerce, this particular service is only 75 ¢ per product, no matter how many products you have. That’s why I showed you the importance of it, it’s a must! See our rates for more details.

Other advantages?

Of course, the renaming service represents an great advantage of doing business with Mr. eCommerce. On the other hand, it is not the only one! The turnkey concept of Mr. eCommerce is also worthy of mention, it is a unique offer in Quebec.

I remind you; Mr. eCommerce takes pictures (3 simultaneous photos / product), write your descriptions and imports all your products to your site. In addition, the mr.eCommerce team comes on premise. No product photographer offer these services in particular, at the cheap price of Mr. eCommerce (starting $ 7 / product).
